Learn how forensic dentists have participated in events such as commercial airline crashes, tsunamis, hurricanes and wildfires. See how the postmortem record collection has evolved from analog to digital.

In addition, dental healthcare professionals are mandated by law to report patients they suspect have signs or symptoms of physical abuse. This course will familiarize you with what those signs may be as well as discuss what your reporting duties are and how to properly file a report if you suspect abuse on a patient.

Anthony R Cardoza, DDS, is a 1985 graduate of Northwestern University Dental School and maintains a general dental practice in El Cajon, California. He is a forensic dental consultant for the County of San Diego Office of the Medical Examiner, County of Imperial Office of the Coroner, State of California Department of Justice, the California Emergency Management Agency (CalEMA) and is the director of the California Dental Identification Team (CalDIT). Dr Cardoza has performed numerous postmortem dental examinations, comparisons and identifications and was involved with identifying victims of the Southern California wildfire disasters. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the San Diego Dental Association and is a diplomat of the American Board of Forensic Odontology. He lectures throughout the United States & Canada.

OSHA, Infection Control/Bloodborne Pathogens and the CA Dental Practice Act with Leslie Canham

OSHA, Dental Practice Act and Infection Control for 2024.

Fulfill four important requirements all in one day! All licensed dental professionals are required by the Dental Board of California to take an infection control class and a California Dental Practice Act course biennially for license renewal. However, don’t forget that Cal/OSHA has annual training requirements for personnel who work in an environment that have a risk of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens and/or hazardous chemicals. Cal/OSHA requires all dental professionals to take an annual course in blood-borne pathogens training, plus an annual hazard communication training program

OSHA Course Description:

Topics covered will include: OSHA Regulations, hazards in a dental office and common OSHA citations, mock OSHA inspection-what will you do in the event of an OSHA inspection? Participants will learn what OSHA inspectors look for and the types of violations that occur in dental offices. Learn how to prevent OSHA violations by creating a culture of safety.

Infection Control Course Description:

The Dental Board of California requires two hours of Infection Control for license renewal for all dental employees. This creative, interactive presentation summarized Dental Board of California’s Minimum Standards for all dental professionals.

CA Dental Practice Act Course Description:

Highlights and updates on the Dental Practice Act, Scope of practice for dentists and allied dental health professionals, license renewal requirements, continuing education, laws governing citations and fines, laws pertaining to prescriptions, dental record keeping.

Leslie Canham, CDA, RDA, CSP

Leslie Canham is a Certified and Registered Dental Assistant, and is Certified In Dental Infection Prevention and Control. She specializes in OSHA Compliance, Infection Control, and Dental Board regulations. As a Certified Speaking Professional, she lectures nationally and internationally. She provides in-office training, consulting, mock-inspections, Webinars, and home study programs.

Leslie is sometimes called upon to investigate breaches in dental infection control and provide expert witness testimony.
